Βαρότσης Νικόλαος (επιβλέπων) Καθ. Καλογεράκης Νικόλαος Δρ. Γαγάνης Βασίλειος Περίληψη Two types of simulators are mainly used for the solution of the phase behavior problems, the black oil Tables simulators and the compositional simulators. The black oil Tables simulators use Tables of volumetric factors (solution gas-oil ratio, oil formation volume factor, gas formation volume factor, oil content) versus pressure and by performing interpolation at each pressure step calculate the produced volumes. On the other hand, thecompositional simulators, perform the phase behavior calculations by using an equation of state so as to calculate the produced volumes of the reservoir fluid. The main advantages of the black-oil Tables simulators are the low calculation (CPU) time and the low required computer memory but they have limitations. On the other hand, compositional simulators are more accurate and can perform better with volatile oils and gas condensates but they need high computational time. Nevertheless, operators still use black-oil simulators to simulate volatile oils and gas condensates compromising with accuracy. The question is how much information is lost with respect to the compositional ones and how inaccurate are the black oil simulation predictions. This thesis, has as scope to present the available options of the black oil tables and compositional simulators as well as their difference in predictions. In order to examine the prediction difference between a black-oil Tables simulator and a compositional simulator, a simple reservoir model was built containing a volatile oil and was simulated using both simulators and their results were compared. More specifically, the two simulators that were compared, was the black oil simulator (IMEX) and the compositional simulator (GEM) provided CMG. The two simulators did not present great divergence between their predictions for the initial volumes in place and the simulation runs. Although, the compositional simulator presented greater accuracy than the black oil simulator in its predictions. Moreover, it was found that the black oil simulator under-predicted the initial volume of oil in place and as a result the oil recovery and the oil cumulative production were also underpredicted.
