Στα πλαίσια της επίσκεψής του στο εργαστήριο Δυναμικών Συστημάτων και Προσομοίωσης, ο Prof. Russell G. Thompson, Department of Infrastructure Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, The University of Melbourne, θα δώσει ομιλία την Παρασκευή 9 Ιουνίου 2023 στις 12:00 στην αίθουσα Γ3.1.14.

Title: Hyperconnected City Logistics and AIMES

Abstract: There are enormous challenges associated with achieving net zero emissions from urban freight systems due to the growth in demand for smaller and more frequent deliveries. Hyperconnected City Logistics provides a framework for dramatically reducing emissions by transforming independent own account networks to increase vehicle consolidation levels and reduce distances travelled. This seminar will illustrate how shared multi-modal networks for improving vehicle consolidation levels in urban areas can be designed and evaluated using optimisation models. Examples are presented involving supplying goods to retails stores, distribution of parcels into CBDs and general freight between major freight areas in metropolitan regions to illustrate the potential of more collaborative and integrated freight networks.

An overview of the Australian Integrated Multimodal EcoSystem (AIMES) will also be provided. AIMES is a world-first living laboratory based on the streets of Melbourne, established to test highly integrated transport technology with a goal to deliver safer, cleaner and more sustainable urban transport outcomes. A description of how partnerships with government and industry have enabled collaborative trials of advanced technologies to integrate the movement of all road users (people and vehicles) with transport infrastructure will be described.

Bio: Dr Russell G. Thompson is a Professor in Transport Engineering at the University of Melbourne where he leads the Physical Internet Lab. Prof. Thompson was a founding Director and has been the Vice President of the Institute for City Logistics based in Kyoto since 1999. His research areas are City Logistics, Physical Internet (PI), resilient transport systems and intelligent transport systems. He has published over 15 books and 150 refereed publications in the field of urban freight.
