Title
Exploring Semantic Graphs using Summaries
Abstract
The explosion of the web and the abundance of linked data have led to the need for effective and efficient methods for exploration, storage, management, and querying. In this direction, semantic summaries have been proposed as a key technology for the quick exploration and understanding of large knowledge graphs. Structural semantic summarization exploits first and foremost the structure of the graph in order to construct the corresponding summaries. In this talk, we initially show how to construct high-quality structural semantic summaries using a plethora of techniques, considering centrality measures, given workloads, and machine learning. Then we will explain how to use these summaries for data exploration tasks, using zoom operations and incremental procedures. Finally, we will proceed to demonstrate how such summaries can be used on big data distributed platforms for efficient query answering, minimizing data access, and effectively grouping data usually queried together.
About the speaker
Haridimos Kondylakis is currently a Collaborating Researcher at Institute of Computer Science, Foundation of Research & Technology-Hellas (FORTH). He holds a Ph.D and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from University of Crete. He is also a visiting lecturer at the Computer Science Department, University of Crete, and at the Department of Electric and Computer Engineering at Hellenic Mediterranean University. His research interests lie in the areas of Semantic Web, Big Data Management, Distributed Computing and Information Systems. He has more than 180 publications in top-tier international conferences, books and journals including ACM SIGMOD, VLDB, VLDBJ, JWS, EDBT, ISWC, etc. collecting more than 2300 citations. He has an h-index of 29.
