(The Role of Photogrammetry for Environmental Applications)

Abstract
Photogrammetry is a field of great importance for environmental issues. It is based on digital images taken at different time frames. Depending on the images it can be close range photogrammetry, aerial or space photogrammetry. It is widely used in applications like water management, water and air pollution, soil erosion, land utilization and environmental change detection. The processing is effected in a special stereo workstation and requires sophisticated special hardware and software. Using techniques for data acquisition, image processing, data integration and data modeling it offers new possibilities to end users. The input data can be converted to an accurate, intelligent description of the object space supporting the decision making process in environmental monitoring systems.
