Θέμα: Investigation of impact of TiO2 NPs coated nano-textile wastewater to activated
sludge respiration rate and various bioassays
Prof. Sureyya Meric, Namık Kemal University Tekirdağ, Turkey
Abstract
The use of nanoparticles (NPs) in the textile processes has increased rapidly. However, the negative effects of NPs and the risk of possible release of NPs into the process wastewater and then to aquatic environment are not well addressed yet. In this study, the fate, transport and ecotoxicological effects of sol-gel based TiO2 NPs were investigated in the textile wastewater treatment cycle. FeSO4 and aluminum coagulants were applied under different conditions for the removal of TiO2 NPs from textile industry wastewater. Particle size distribution, absorbance values (UV-Vis range), residual aluminum, iron and TiO2 NPs and soluble COD were monitored to define transport mechanisms during treatment of textile industry wastewater. The effect of TiO2 on activated sludge biological treatment was followed by oxygen uptake rate (OUR), while the ecotoxicity was studied by Ceriodaphnia dubia immobilization test.
