The kick-off meeting of InHERiT, an ERASMUS+ adult education project titled “Promoting Cultural Heritage as a Generator of Sustainable Development” took place on the 3rd of December 2015 in Athens Greece at the premises of the Maniatakeion Foundation. This international meeting was organised by the School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete, being the leading partner of the project. The project consortium contains the Economics Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, the Business School of Middlesex University, London, UK, the Neapolis University of Pafos, Cyprus, the Flaminia Foundation, Ravenna, Italy, the Maniatakeion Foundation, Athens, Greece and the Center of Mediterranean Architecture (KEPPEDIH-KAM) of the Municipality of Chania, Greece.  PIOP, the Piraeus Bank Cultural Foundation, also attended the meeting as an associated partner as well as the Department of Informatics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with its “Kostis Palamas” adult education project on Greek civilization and culture through innovative tools.  

InHERiT is a 3-year international and interdisciplinary project aiming to increase public awareness on the economic value of built cultural heritage and its crucial role in generating regional and local development. 

Its objectives will be attained by the following means:

• Creating a platform as an interactive tool for information and communication. 

• Evaluating and assessing relative international good practices. 

• Developing material that will be useful for training individuals in cultural heritage in general and related social entrepreneurship initiatives in specific. 

• Customising the pedagogical material by allowing its adaptivity to different local contexts. 

• Organising seminars and hands-on workshops, together with open lectures and on-line videos for deepening as well as disseminating project outputs.
