The advanced 'Global Healthcare Innovations' (GHI) event was held at the Technical University of Crete, on June18th, 2019. The event was organized by the Rectorate of the University, TUC's Digital Image and Signal Processing Laboratory, in collaboration with Prof. Metin Akay (Department of Biomedical Engineering, Cullen College of Engineering, University of Houston).
The main objective of GHI event was to familiarize TUC's undergraduate and graduate engineering students with the relatively new approches of advanced technologies on brain and life sciences, data science and artificial intelligence in biomedicine, healthcare entrepreneurship and innovation. The event focesed on translational research and the need for a paradigm shift in engineering and science education.
On the occasion of this event, eleven (11) top-notch speakers shared their knowledge on the main topics of 'Advanced Technologies for Brain and Health Monitoring', 'Data Science and Health Informatics', 'Micro and Nanotechnology in Medicine'. Keynote Speaches were delivered by Roderic I. Pettigrew, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Engineering Health (EnHealth) and executive dean for the Engineering Medicine (EnMed) program at Texas A&M University, and Ted Berger, David Packard Chair of Engineering, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Director of the Center for Neural Engineering of USC Viterbi School of Engineering, University of South California.
