On January 1^st, Emeritus Professor Evagelos Gidarakos (School of Environmental Engineering), started his mandate as the President of the International Scientific Organization IWWG - International Waste Working Group for the period 2021-2022. Prof. Evagelos Gidarakos was unanimously elected President of IWWG during the International Scientific Conference  VENICE 2018 - 7th International Symposium on Energy from Biomass and Waste, among several distinguished colleagues from all over the world. 

IWWG was established in 2002 with the aim of developing a network of scientists focusing on the production and promotion of knowledge on proper waste management worldwide. Today it has hundreds of members and is involved in the organization of scientific conferences and seminars, the development of working groups and the publication of scientific works. The Greek Presidency of IWWG coincides with the great challenges posed by the COVID19 pandemic, inter alia, the production and waste management worldwide.
