Την Τρίτη 30 Ιουνίου 2015 και ώρα 12:00, ο Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής Στέργος Αφαντενός, θα δώσει ομιλία στο Αμφιθέατρο του Κτιρίου Επιστημών (ΗΜΜΥ) με θέμα: "Discourse parsing for Segmented Discourse Representation Theory and the unsupervised extraction of semantic relations using discourse cues”.

Περίληψη ομιλίας:

The first part of this presentation is consecrated on discourse parsing for the Segmented Discourse Representation Theory (SDRT). We present a novel approach to document-based discourse analysis by performing a global A* search over the space of possible structures while optimizing a global criterion over the set of potential coherence relations. Existing approaches to discourse analysis have so far relied on greedy search strategies or restricted themselves to sentence-level discourse parsing. Another advantage of our approach is its flexibility in being able to integrate constraints (including linguistically motivated ones like the Right Frontier Constraint). This is the first discourse parsing system for French; our evaluation is carried out on the Annodis corpus. In the second part of this talk we present a knowledge base containing triples involving pairs of verbs associated with semantic or discourse relations. The relations in these triples are marked by discourse connectors between two adjacent instances of the verbs in the triple in the large French corpus, frWaC. We detail several measures that evaluate the relevance of the triples and the strength of their association. We use manual annotations to evaluate our method. Our results show the potential impact of our resource for discourse analysis tasks as well as other semantically oriented tasks like temporal and causal information extraction.

Ο Στέργος Αφαντενός, μετά την απόκτηση του διδακτορικού του διπλώματος το 2006 εργάσθηκε ως μεταδιδακτορικός ερευνητής σε τρία πανεπιστήμια στην Γαλλία (Université de la Méditerranée Aix-Marseille, Université de Nantes, Unviversité de Toulouse - Paul Sabatier). Από το 2010 έχει την θέση Αναπληρωτή Καθηγητή στο Université de Toulouse – Paul Sabatier. Ο γενικότερος ερευνητικός χώρος του Στέργου Αφαντενού είναι η επεξεργασία φυσικής γλώσσας. Τα τελευταία χρόνια η ερευνητική του δραστηριότητα συγκεντρώνεται γύρω από την ανάλυση της ρητορικής δομής του λόγου (discourse parsing) καθώς και γύρω από την Λεκτική Σημασιολογία (Lexical Semantics).
