Περίληψη ομιλίας:
The Baltic Sea region (BSR) – one of the diverse European regions, having both EU and non-EU countries. The lecture will be given on the experience of BSR in energy recovery from municipal waste. We will go through the steps of waste hierarchy and concentrate on possibilities and situation of utilizing energetic waste potential via different technological solutions – energy recovery from landfills, incineration, MBT (mechanical biological treatment), anaerobic digestion. Situation in the BSR countries is very different; it will be discussed what technologies are popular in which countries and why. Finally, examples of Sweden – the country having one of the best experiences in recovery of both materials and energy from waste, and Lithuania, which is just starting to utilize energetic potential of municipal waste, will be presented.
